Camping - How Our Family Evolved

MomsThoughts null

We bought our Coachman Spirit and a disastrous 2nd Memorial Day Camping trip with our 15 month old. My husband and I had been tent camping since our relationship started 9 years prior. We primarily went with his parents first when they also were in tents then we would tent camp beside their travel trailer. I never saw the reason for one we had everything we needed with the tent and a decent bathhouse. I still felt the same way after our first camping trip when our son was 3 months. It went beautifully, we had a wonderful creekside campsite at Toe River Campground. We set up on a large site having the tent just outside of my in-laws camper. It was a great weekend our little one slept beautifully (I wanted to record that Creek noise) and we had an overall great time besides me being an overprotective new mom. Now fast forward a year, time for the Memorial Day Weekend Camping Trip we are now at Camp Clearwater. I was so excited for a campground where we could bring our jet ski. We get there and it was calling to be warm but we thankfully were on a site with trees or so we thought. The first night was okay the campground stayed loud like really loud until quite hours so our 15 month old slept fitfully, cried on and off but did settle down around midnight. Then the heat and humidity came in. We had electricity so we had a fan running but by 7 am it was a sauna because the sun perfectly shined through the trees to heat our tent. Night one baby with 7 hours of sleep (he normally gets 10-14hrs). Day goes great we go out to the lake have a great day get the 15 month old to nap between my husband and myself on a slow jet ski ride around the lake (1hr check proud parents). Night two hotter and louder than night one but I prepared a towel in the cooler all day hooked it up in front of the fan for our son but noise was our enemy this night. Our son got may 7 hours again. Sunday we decided to drive due to unbearable heat to the WWII Museum in Fayetteville. We really loved it there and we were able to keep the little one cool and get two 30 minute naps in. By Sunday night and Monday morning we have never been so excited to pack up and leave. We spent Sunday night blissfully in our in-laws trailer with the AC on and decided that tent camping with a toddler in the south just wasn't going to happen anymore. By July we had looked at multiple different campers narrowing down what we wanted and we purchased our wonderful Spirit 2454BH in August. That is how we became campground lovers that Spirit has made us get camping in our blood. Plus huge win for our son and in-laws because now they have a way to make memories one campsite at at time as well.
