Carolina Country Campground Review

MomsThoughts null

Giving a honest review of Carolina Country Campground located at 185 Jim Neely Drive Salisbury, NC 28144.

Please note we were informed on June 13th that the campground is under contract for sale.

Dates of Stay: June 12-14th, 2020

Overall Rating: 3.5/5

Roads: 2/5

Bathhouse: N/A

Playground: looked nice but N/A due to COVID

Fishing: 3/5

Pond: 4/5

Pool: 4.5/5

Sites: 4/5

Extras: 3.5/5

Roads

So this is the worst part of the campground. Once you get past the pond going to sites 40-66 the road is severely washed out. I will say that motorhomes and larger 5th wheels had made it up their but it's an ankle breaker for sure if not careful. We personally just don't like putting that kind of stress on our truck or unit. Not to mention it would be a nightmare if it rains.

Bathhouse and Playground

Normally I would try to rate these but due to COVID it was not the time.

What I can say is what we saw of the playground looked nice. I can also say since we are in a self contained unit we didn't even attempt to look at the bathhouse.

Fishing

We have a little boy so this is something we always rate if available. Only thing we caught one turtle. We knew others fishing as well and no one caught anything and people only saw one reeled in. However due to the shape of the pond, the banks, and the paddle boats you had plenty of fishing options.

Pond

The pond was nice in my opinion. Was simple did have a few hidden spots that were accessible by a hiking trail or the paddle boats.

Pool

The pool was no frills but it was clean, had shower and changing stalls in the pool area, a bathroom to quickly get too if needed and most importantly was one of the bigger pools I have seen at a campground. For reference it was about 2.5x bigger than the one at Crosswinds Family and 2x the size of the one at Daddy Joe's. It had a nice large pool deck. Biggest downfall is no straight clear easy path to the pool and they only had two umbrellas up. Had stairs that went across one whole short side and a nice shallow to deep transition. The kids loved it from itty bitty to young at heart.

Sites

Sites this is always important. Pay close attention to the color code of the map! Not all sites are full hookups.

Site 16 will give you privacy. Sites 11-14 are stacked and very close to the cabins. Sites 2-10 have a decent drop off the back and are not pull through. Sites 15 & 17-24 are nice but pay attention to size of unit. 17, 19 & 20 were my favorite on that side due to shade. You also get a pretty good gap between 19 & 20.

Site 16

Site 17

Site 19

Site 20

Sites 30-33 offer little to no shade but should not be too bad to level a unit. Sites 34 & 35 are close together and close to the woods.

Sites 36-39 are all beside/behind the clubhouse. Sites 36, 38 & 39 all have a view of the pond. All four sites are shady. There is some morning and afternoon sun but the camper awnings can block out alot. The back of site 38 and the front of site 37 have a massive tree. The trunk/root systems really encroaches site 37 and would not be good if you have slide outs on both sides. 38 & 39 are more sloped so leveling challenge accepted. We maxed out our Andersen Levelers.

Site 38 looking at Site 38

Site 40 is directly at the pool access.

Site 41 is just above it.

Site 42 & 43 are both nice sites

Site 44 puts your driver side right up against the woods but looks nice.

Site 48 let's you only see woods and brush, super secluded peaceful site

Site 42

Site 43

Site 44

Site 48

Sites 49-55 are not pull through they have a steep embankment off the back that gets steeper as the numbers decrease. Sites are large enough for 5th wheels and motorhomes.

Sites 54-63 would be good for pop up or van campers. They do not have sewer.

Sites 62-60

Site 64 had a large 5th wheel parked but was not labeled as sewer. Sites 65 & 66 were close together and backed up into the woods but again no sewer.

Sites 65 & 66

Sites 67-69 are in a field almost little to no shade until the sun begins to dip around 6:30 and directly in front of the horseshoe pits with no sewer.

Sites 67-69

I personally would avoid sites 26-29 especially site 26 it is pull through but it is a weird set up.

Site 25 does not look bad if you do not want sewer.

Extras

So I personally loved the fact that they have mini golf, a small petting zoo and paddle boats.

Mini golf was not mind blowing or up to the beach or mountain standards but it was fun and a good family time.

The petting zoo was super simple goats, chickens and alpaca's but it was cute especially for a two year old.

The paddle boats had seen their prime they leaked from the paddles and needed dumping from rain when we arrived but they were still a nice little escape.

Overall this is a campground we plan on returning to. Was a super quick easy tow from the Winston Area and for the price is a great getaway with a little family. However as I mentioned above Carolina Country Campground is under contract for new owners. Word around the campground was that the new owners do own other campgrounds and do plan on fully paving the roads.
