Roads
First note that this campground is directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Fancy Gap, VA. Note Parkway information regarding the roads before heading there. Also FOLLOW the instructions to get to the campground from the campground website. They list ways to avoid that will make you a not so happy camper when you get there.
The roads at the facility are all gravel. This is okay for the most part but if you have a bigger unit be prepared to have to get a little creative with backing into the back in sites. Also the only downside is that they are protective over their grassy areas which I get but if your in any of the sites close to the end of the back in sites headed to the tent sites this can get tricky depending on your unit size. The roads are tight and this is super important to know. Additionally there is a small hill to exit the facility. During our first visit in 2019, the F-150 towing out ahead of us had to use 4X4 to get out. They were towing a toy hauler with two motorcycles and there is a very good chance that between the tire combo and weight that is why they struggled. We tow with a 2017 5.0 F-150 a 5500lbs unit and we have beefy General Grabber AT/X tires and we did not use 4X4 at any point to get out of the campground.
Bathhouse
Each bathhouse at this facility is a private shower/ toilet combo. They are made with love and it directly shows. The family definitely loves their campground and this love is seen in their bathhouses.
Playground
There is no playground but there is a orchard and a tree swing. Our son still loved playing outside here and from pictures during others stay kids love to run the orchard field.
Fishing
There is a small pond but I have no clue if they allow fishing. We honestly always go in October and fishing in the mountains is not on my list.
Pool
There is no pool at this location.
Sites
Sites the critical questions everyone always has. There are 13 sites for Campers/RV at FGCC. That is it 13! It is why I absolutely love love love this campground. It is small, it is on the Blue Ridge Parkway and it is run by amazing people.
We have personally stayed on 6, 7, 12 & 13 . All are great in their own way. The FGCC website has great information on sites. 1 is the largest site in the campground, Sites 2,3, & 4 are the smallest sites. Sites 8-13 are for larger units, and sites 5-7 are for your typical under 40 ft campers. We have seen large 5th wheels, RV's and even a Tesla in the sites at Fancy Gap Cabins and Campgrounds. The sites are easy to set up in and are pretty level especially since you are on a mountain side of the Blue Ridge.
Extras
As far as extras there are not a lot directly in the campground however, the location of this campground gives you plenty of opportunities to explore Fancy Gap and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The one thing the campground does have is a small trail system. However, please note not all of their trails are for the faint of heart so make sure you are prepared before you go. Especially if you plan on going down the trail head up by the motel. The campground does have Cabins which are super cute and a motel so if you have family members who do not have a camper this may be the place for you. Their office store has local foods, crafts, and goodies and plenty of flyers for you to find so many wonderful things to do.
We have found two amazing farms near by. Doe Run Farms and Blue Ridge Pumpkins both are absolutely amazing. The last visit we also chose to stay on the parkway for longer and go to Mabry Mill which was absolutely beautiful.
Overall, I fully plan on scheduling another trip here in 2021.
Overall we will be back. We drive straight up 52 to the Blue Ridge Parkway and I will be honest it is a haul. My husband laughs that this trip puts more pull on the transmission than some of our mountain mountain trips. I personally love supporting this campground.
