Uh Oh's and Oh No's

MomsThoughts null

We were not new to camping, we were not even new to setting up a camper we helped my in-laws plenty. But here are our starting stories in our Spirit 2454BH.

The Outdoor Kitchen

The first time we pulled the outdoor kitchen out and started using it guess what. I know it was easy (A leak) the fitting just was not right enough for the hose at the bottom of the sink. The fix super simple and super easy plumbing tape. Thanks to my father in-law it was already at the campground.

The Black Tank Flush

We had everything we needed for the black tank thank goodness but when we went to use the flush for the first time guess what. Nothing happened. After fighting it for 25 minutes, multiple Google searches and videos, and a whole lot of cuss words we gave up. Two calls to the dealership later we determined the check valve under the bathroom sink was installed backwards. Quick unscrew and reinstall later and guess what working black tank flush.

The Kitchen Has Flooded

Thank goodness after a particularly bad storm we decided to open the camper for something. What we found put us into panic mode. The kitchen counter was soaked, by some small miracle we had a drying mat on the counter which contained a ton of the water. It was in our stove under our stove under the cabinets. We spent 2 hours with towels and a shop vacuum getting up water. We removed part of the stove and the flood was a miracle in itself. We found a plastic blind tie in the back of the stove already melting from the one time I used it.

One call to the dealer an appointment scheduled they got the warranty work done fixed the problem. The dealer is not sure if our stove vent was faulty or if there was a leak at the vent covering but Country Roads went above and beyond to make sure it would never happen again. And best part, they did the work between two camping trips and kept us on the road.

Truck with No Air Bags

We tow with a 2017 F-150 5.0 with the 3.55 gears. Between the camper weight and the dogs in the back we squatted bad (check out our home picture) we were saving up for airbags over the holidays but we didn't factor in a tight turn on a hill at a campground. The end result a bent scissor level. No big deal unscrew a few bolts straighten her up and she is good to go another day.

Equalizer Oh S***

For one if you own an Equilizer hitch and no one told you the first few tows sounds like your murdering someone or destroying something by the way they do and they are loud. Second be careful where you place those heavy bars I left them standing beside the camper while trying to level the unit and they slipped and did a tiny bit of damage nothing that was not fixable but there weight makes them pack quite a punch.

Front Cap Crack

The most current topic is a small crack in the front cap. Thankfully we have it documented and our dealer Country Roads RV said that it is ready to be fixed whenever we are done with the camper for the season. Warranty claim has been submitted and approved.

For now that is all we have but I am sure there will be more. P.S this is a maintenance topic but always check your water connections inside the camper they will become loose with towing vibrations.
